India’s Professional Speaking Revolution : Volume Lessons from the Maldives Summit

In a world full of voices, finding the one that truly connects with your audience is difficult. The best speaker isnít always the most followed or the most famous. Itís the one who speaks to your purpose, energies your room, and leaves people thinking long after the applause fades. India officially became the world’s 4th largest economy this year, industries witnessing double-digit growth demand such voices that inspire, share the expertise with authenticity, and reshape the culture. Just a decade ago, Indian professional speaking was a small circle; now, digital reach, corporate investments, and international invitations have opened enormous new doors. The Maldives Professional Speakers Summit (MPSS) hosted by Maldives Professional Speakers Association (MPSA) was a proof. India’s professional speaking industry is entering a dynamic new era; one with accelerated innovation, deeper connection, and global collaboration. Participating as a keynote speaker at the summit, I had firsthand experience of this transformation, which is both inspiring and instructive for Indian speakers looking to shape the future of the craft. The Summit offered more than a stage. It delivered a live laboratory for growth and human connection. While presenting on the transformative power of voice, the most valuable lessons emerged not from the podium but from observing, interacting, and learning alongside peers and the audience. The Maldives summit was a masterclass in hospitality and inclusivity. The organisers created an environment where speakers felt both honoured and at ease, facilitating genuine exchange of ideas. 1. Action Creates Clarity We often strive for perfect planning before stepping up. The summit demonstrated that clarity and mastery emerge from action, not from inaction. At MPSS, I saw speakers learning and improving live on stage. Thatís how growth really happens. Speakers visibly evolved as they spoke, embodying the idea that progress happens in real time not behind the scenes. There were moments when the schedule shifted and talk times were adjusted, a minor technical glitch surfaced, or the session was spontaneously reshaped to welcome an audience member to present her inspiring NGO work. Even pausing the program to honour prayer times and local customs became part of the experience. 2. Systems Beat Motivation While motivation hypes interest, it is systems; repeatable frameworks that drive consistency and impact in professional speaking. The summitís most memorable sessions focused on practical models, not empty hype. Consistency trumps inspiration, and effective speakers focus on building structures they can rely on. The most impactful sessions at MPSS werenít about hype, but about frameworks that anyone could apply. A few Speakers Eugene Seah, John Jayakumar, Mimi Nicklin, Guan Hin Tay and Afeef Hussain frameworks were simple to apply. 3. Progress Over Perfection Perfect presentations are a myth. Those who resonate most are present, authentic, and unafraid to reveal imperfections. The summit was a stage for real stories and genuine vulnerability. Fellow speakers, from the Maldives and beyond, modelled how authenticity bridges gaps and invites trust. At MPSS, the speakers who connected most weren’t flawless. They were authentic, present, and willing to share anyway. A few that touched my heart were Michelle Mills-Porter, Reema Rasheed, Marta Pardo, Aminath Ali. Though I came to present, I left with a wealth of learning from fellow speakers, audience members, and the summit organisers. Discussions were open and generous, spanning cutting-edge communication techniques, leveraging technology for impact, and strategies for leaving a lasting impression. The value for an Indian speaker here is clear: our role is evolving. Audiences expect not just inspiration, but actionable insights and know- how. Strategy-driven speaking is the new standard, propelled by demand for relevance and measurable impact. Indiaís new era for speakers combines scale with soul. True impact and lasting influence come from matching numbers with the courage to be real. Long after the applause fades, itís the authentic voice, not the loudest, that endures. AUTHOR BHARTI NAIK

From Cold Peaks To Warm Rivers

From Cold Peaks to Warm Rivers:: “When love melts the ice, humanity flows stronger.” This is the essence of what I shared at #TrailblazersNZ2025. Love is sunshine. People are sunshine. And sunshine has the power to melt even the hardest, coldest snow. When snow melts, it becomes a warm, flowing river. A river that connects mountains to the earth. And when people’s love flows into our lives, it releases oxytocin, the antidote to cortisol, the stress hormone. When people truly connect, the warmth of their love melts the snow. What once felt rigid and frozen transforms into a flowing river. Our friends in New Zealand were warm, friendly, and grounded. Every day, all of us sat together in the hotel lounge, sharing stories, laughter, and wisdom. Those moments of simple connection will stay with me forever. Being among such a warm, wise, and deeply philosophical community was an experience I will always cherish. When I boarded my flight to Auckland for the Trailblazers 2025 Convention, I knew I was heading toward something special, but I did not realise just how deeply it would move me. The magic began even before the convention started. The warmth of the people in New Zealand created an immediate sense of belonging. Conversations in the hotel lounge, simple, unplanned, and heartfelt, were filled with laughter, stories, and wisdom. It was in those moments that I experienced the power of connection. The community spirit was evident everywhere. Their camaraderie set the tone for the entire gathering. Before I even stepped onto the stage, I felt transformed by the love and inclusivity around me. I carried all these feelings with me. Standing in Auckland, where cold, snow-clad mountains melt into flowing rivers, I felt the same within myself, barriers melting into flow. And then there was the thrill of witnessing the All Blacks rugby match, where New Zealand triumphed, it was not just sport, it was purely a magical experience. I discovered a beautiful parallel between cultures, a Maori love song, Pokarekare Ana, that felt like the twin soul of our Punjabi ëHeerí In end of my talk, I invited the audience to sing this song, and as the audience sang along, I felt a deep sense of connection beyond language and geography. Their curiosity about Indian scriptures and traditions was heartwarming. I felt valued, respected, and accepted. For me, Trailblazers 2025 was not just a convention. It was a reminder that people are our greatest strength, and that human connection has the power to transform everything. I return from New Zealand with immense gratitude, a heart full of warmth, and friendships that will last a lifetime. Gratitude to everyone who made this journey so memorable. These conventions are not just events. These are shared moments to treasure, proof that across borders & cultures, the power of love, community, and human connection flows stronger than anything else. AUTHOR DR. ALKA CHADHA

Presence Over Perfection : The New Voice of Indian Speaking

When I recently spoke in Auckland to an audience of professional speakers from New Zealand and Australia, I realized something profound about where India stands in the global speaking landscape. The speaking industry worldwide is evolving rapidly, but what’s happening in India right now feels like the dawn of a new era ó one driven by authenticity, emotional mastery, and audience connection over polished performance. Here’s what struck me during my talk. Global speaking isn’t just about delivery, accent, or slides. It’s about emotional presence ó the ability to make every person in the room feel like you’re speaking directly to them. The audience in Auckland reminded me that mastery lies not in how many stages you stand on, but in how deeply your message lands. Thatís where Indian speakers have a unique edge: our stories, emotions, and resilience have global resonance. The world doesnít just want to hear our expertise; it wants to feel our truth. There was a small moment before I began my talk that tested this belief. My PowerPoint file suddenly went missing from the tech teamís laptop ó seconds before stepping on stage. For a speaker, that’í’s a real trigger moment. But in that pause, I reminded myself of what I teach ó the power of Stop, Pause, and Restart. I took a breath, grounded myself, and focused on the message, not the slides. The talk went on to flow naturally, and the audience connected even more deeply. That’s when I realized: true professionalism in speaking isn’t about perfection, it’s about presence. What also stood out was the hunger in the room. Many local and regional speakers – especially from Australia and New Zealand ó were eager to take their voice global. They weren’t just chasing fame; they were seeking direction. “Where do I start?” “How do I connect beyond my geography?” Those were the real questions buzzing in the room. And they’re the same questions many Indian speakers are asking today. The new era of professional speaking in India is no longer about being the loudest voice; it’s about being the most real one. It’s about emotional intelligence, adaptability, and global awareness – skills that define leadership and influence in the modern world. As Indian speakers step onto global stages, our power lies not in imitating international trends, but in translating our lived experiences into universal lessons. The world is ready for Indian voices – voices that blend intellect with empathy, structure with soul, and ambition with authenticity Thatís the shift weíre witnessing. India is no longer a speaking destination waiting to be discovered. It’s a voice that’s finally ready to be heard — globally. AUTHOR SAURABH PATIL

How International Conventions Elevate Your Speaking Career

leaders to navigate complexity with courage, clarity, and character. My journey into international conventions began long before I knew that “professional speaking” was an industry. In 2010, I attended my first overseas conference—the Association of Experiential Education’s annual event in Las Vegas. A year later, I returned as a board member and workshop presenter. At the time, it was simply an opportunity to learn and contribute; I had no idea how pivotal international gatherings would later become in shaping my speaking career. It was only in 2018 that I discovered the existence of global speaker associations. Despite having spoken for decades—first in the Indian Army and later as a corporate trainer—I had never heard the term “professional speaker.” When the idea of forming an Indian speakers’ association was still in its infancy, I became part of a survey group exploring its feasibility. That eventually led to PSCI’s birth and, in 2019, its first convention. Second, they expose you to global audiences and cultures. A message that moves people in India may need adaptation in Malaysia, Kazakhstan, or Dubai. Understanding global cultural nuances is essential if you aspire to be a global keynote speaker. Third, the networking is invaluable. Over time, I learned how to build meaningful, intentional connections—not just casual conference conversations. Before every event, I now study the speaker lineup, connect with global peers on LinkedIn, and set clear networking goals. This one practice alone has transformed my growth. Finally, international conventions teach you perspective. You learn what universally works on stage, where cultural boundaries matter, and what emerging trends are shaping the profession. For any speaker aiming to grow beyond borders, international conventions are not optional—they are transformative. AUTHOR Brigadier Sushil Bhasin

Don’t Attend a Speakers’ Conversation If you are not ready to take action.

That’s what a good speakers’ convention does. It holds up a mirror and a mic at the same time. If you are serious about the craft and business of speaking, conventions are where your career stops jogging and starts sprinting. They are like a power grid – you plug in, recharge your skills, clear cobwebs, and leave with contacts, ideas, and momentum that actually move the needle. First, the people. A speakers convention brings together experts, decision-makers, bestselling authors, rising voices, and veteran legends under one roof. You shake a few hands, trade stories over coffee, and suddenly you have unlocked collabs, referrals, and cross-border gigs that cold emails will never touch. Serendipity is waiting for you. You just have to show up and say Hi!. Second, the learning. You get the full stack: keynotes that raise your ceiling, panels that widen your field of view, and workshops that sharpen technique. Algorithms can feed you with content, but a great room sharpens your instincts. You will see what lands with audiences, notice how formats are changing, and pick up frameworks that you can implement in your business. Over the years, having attended multiple speaking conventions, I can raise my hand and say that the learning alone is worth the ticket. This is your community, your tribe. And they always have your back. Speaking of communities, the who’s of who of the professional speaking community in India will come together on February 6-7, 2026 at Chennai, to be a part of PSS 2026 – Professional Speakers Summit 2026. The Professional Speakers Summit is the annual flagship speakers convention in India. Held every year in different cities across the length and breadth of the country, this event brings together global speakers and thought leaders from all over the world to India, with one single mission – to nurture the speaking ecosystem in India with global wisdom, camaraderie and collaboration. The theme of the year is Synergy because transformation accelerates when voices collaborate, and the venue is the Fortune Beach Resort, ECR, Chennai. What Has The ‘mace’or ‘gada’ Got To Do With PSS 2026?

At first glance, nothing. But look a little deeper… and everything begins to make sense. Yes, the learnings at PSS2026 were powerful. The sessions were insightful. The speakers were inspiring.Of course, we gathered knowledge — that is what summits are meant to do. But the real treasures? They were hidden in the little, ordinary, unscripted moments. It was in the moments with the sword…The gentle curiosity around the yak…The quiet delight of the little bird…The laughter-filled Pinky moments…The playful sandcastle moments by the shore…The serene temple pauses…The stylish Hat moments… The sleepy (but don’t want to sleep) pillow moments And of course, the unforgettable ‘falling-biscuit-into -the-chai’ moments. Who would have thought that wisdom could dip itself so sweetly into a cup of tea? Then there were the lift conversations, brief, unexpected, yet warm. The silent walks towards the venue. The companionable walks back to the rooms. No stage lights. No microphones. Just human beings… meeting human beings. And somewhere in these beautifully ordinary spaces, something extraordinary happened. Walls softened.Stories were exchanged.Laughter travelled freely. And little by little… beautiful relationships were built. Because every time we shared a small part of ourselves with another, something shifted. Something opened. Something connected. That is what the Gada reminded me of. Not just strength. Not just power. But presence. Groundedness.Authentic Human Connection. PSS2026 was not only about what we learned. It was about what we felt. What we shared. What we quietly became in each other’s company. I return from this summit with notes, yes…With ideas, certainly… But more than anything, I return richer. Richer in relationships.Richer in memories.Richer in moments that will continue to ripple long after the summit lights have dimmed. And for that…PSS2026 will stay with me for a very, very long time. Why I jumped 8000 km outside my comfort zone

“Why would you go to the other side of the world to deliver a keynote presentation?” You have no idea how many fellow Belgians have asked me this question. The funny thing is, I didn’t really have an answer. You see, as a trainer and keynote speaker, I’m used to being in front of an audience; always speaking about what eople ask me to speak about: creativity, marketing, advertising, copywriting, etc… But this time it was different. This time, the ‘briefing’ didn’t come from the outside, but from the inside. And for the very first time, I felt as if I had something to lose. ‘Totally Flawesome: 9,5 ways to be perfectly imperfect as a brand’ is an interactive keynote, masterclass and workshop that shows you how to turn your brand’s flaws into awesome strengths. It’s my brainchild. My baby. But most importantly, it’s the one thing I really believe after 25 years as an advertising consultant. So why travel all the way to Chennai, India, to share it with the world for the very first? To be honest, it was more of an instinctive decision, and until I got to the venue, I was still not sure I made the right one. Somehow, Indian people can connect with my inner child simply by introducing me to theirs. And then suddenly it dawns on me: I never jumped out of my comfort zone in the first place. My comfort zone was already here, waiting for me, with these kind, warm, helpful souls at PSA India who want to see me shine, do well and kick ass. I should have known, but I do now. What an absolute pleasure and privilege to share who I really am with you all. Thank you for everything you’ve given me in those few days. Let’s do that again, shall we? Author ROBIN DHONDT

Synergy Is Built On Trust

On the 6th and 7th of February, at PSS 2026, many of us experienced something that cannot be captured fully in photographs or session summaries. It was not just content. It was a connection. The theme of Synergy felt less like a concept and more like a lived reality over those two days. Because synergy is not merely collaboration. It is what happens when credibility meets consistency, when conversations move beyond introductions, and when professionals choose to build together rather than stand apart. Networking expands your circle. Trust deepens it.Synergy multiplies it. In The Trust Multiplier, I write about how trust accelerates outcomes in ways competence alone cannot. Skill may open doors, but trust keeps them open. And in a professional community like PSAI, that distinction matters. Every referral carries someone’s credibility. Every collaboration reflects someone’s judgment. We do not lend introductions casually, we lend them when trust exists. Over those two days at PSS 2026, the real value was not only on stage. It was in the pauses between sessions. In honest conversations over coffee. Members choose to listen deeply to each other’s journeys. In ideas exchanged with generosity rather than guardedness. Business development today is not aggressive. It is relational. It grows quietly through consistency, ethical action, and reliability. Synergy does not demand louder voices; it demands stronger character. What PSS 2026 reminded us is simple: when trust circulates freely within a community, opportunities follow naturally. Not because we chase them, but because we become the kind of professionals others feel confident aligning with. The responsibility now lies with us. The real outcome of PSS will not be measured by applause or attendance. It will be measured by what we do next. By whether we follow up or honour the conversations we began. By whether we continue building with the same openness we experienced during those two days. If we nurture the trust that was strengthened at PSS 2026, synergy will not remain a theme from an event. It will become the operating culture of our community. Let us move forward with one clear intention: Not to grow alone, but to grow responsibly together. Because when trust multiplies, success stops being individual – it becomes collective. Author Radhika Bali

The Ripple Effect : Crafting Influence Beyond The Spotlight

The roar of applause is intoxicating. For many speakers, the journey ends when the microphone is switched off and the stage lights dim. But true mastery of the craft isn’t measured by the trophies/keepsakes on the mantelpiece. Real impact lies in the “invisible stage”: the space where our words take root in grow into their own successes. My love affair with the stage didn’t begin with a spotlight, but in the frantic, hushed shadows of the school green room. I was in sixth grade, helping a friend memorize her lines. The more she struggled, the more I stepped in to guide her, until the roles shifted and I stepped onto the stage in her place. That moment taught me an essential truth: the stage is a place of service, not just performance. The Trinity Of Impact : Engage, Empower, Deliver To influence beyond the stage, one must move past the ego of the “performer” and embrace the role of the “enabler.” This transition is fuelled by a simple yet profound philosophy: Engage, Empower, and Deliver. Engage: Influence starts with connection. Whether I am delivering one of my 125 educational sessions or competing in a high-stakes Evaluation contest, the goal is never to talk at an audience, but to listen to their needs. Engagement is the bridge that carries a message from the speaker’s lips to the listener’s heart. It is a ripple effect; they, in turn, will eventually help someone else find their lines in a metaphorical green room. Miles to Go…. Robert Frost famously wrote, “The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.” For those of us who live for the podium, those “miles” are the people we have yet to reach. The “promises” are the commitments we make to our craft and to the community to never stop sharing the gift of confidence. Influence is not a static achievement; it is a continuous journey. As I look back on the sessions and the trophies, they feel like mile- stones, but the road ahead is what excites me. There are more voices to unlock, more confidence to instil, and more leaders to build. The stage may be where we start, but our legacy is found in the silence after we speak, where our influence continues to echo in the voices of those we helped find. And this is the spirit I carry in PSAI-being a new member-one voice that may resonate with millions causing unlimited ripples across far and beyond. Author Shalini Mukund

Influence Begins Before you Speak

Professional speakers spend years mastering openings, storytelling, humour, stagecraft, audience engagement, and the perfect closing line. But here is the uncomfortable truth – sometimes, the audience has already decided how they feel about us before we even say our opening sentence. As a BrandImage Consultant for more than two decades, working with leaders and speakers across global conferences, corporate boardrooms, and international associations, I have become increasingly fascinated by one thing: the most influential speakers are not always the most technically brilliant speakers. Some speakers walk onto the stage and instantly command trust. Others walk on with equally strong content, yet somehow struggle to create the same connection. Why? Because influence begins before you speak. Experienced speakers understand this instinctively. We have all seen it happen. A speaker enters the room before their session starts. They greet the AV team warmly, acknowledge the organisers, smile at attendees, and carry calm confidence without demanding attention. Immediately, the room softens toward them. Then there is the speaker who arrives already stressed, snapping at technicians while saying, “My slides were supposed to be loadedalready!” Ironically, their keynote may be about emotional intelligence. As speakers, we sometimes forget that the audience is always watching the off-stage presentation too. Over the years, I developed what I call the ABCD of Professional Presence – Appearance, Behavior, ommunication, and Digital Presence. Interestingly, these four elements often influence credibility long before thekeynote even begins. And please – if your entire keynote is being read directly from slides, your PowerPoint deserves part of the speaking fee. The best communicators create connection, not performance. Then comes Digital Presence. Today, audiences often “meet” us digitally first – through LinkedIn profiles, speaker reels, Zoom presence, social media behavior, and even the way we respond to emails. In today’s world, digital presence is part of stage presence. A speaker may have a brilliant keynote, but an outdated online presence or careless digital communication can quietly weaken perceived credibility before they even arrive at the venue. At the end of the day, audiences may forget our exact words. But they remember how we made them feel – on stage, off stage, and in every interaction surrounding the stage. Because long before we speak, our presencehas already started the keynote. Author Dr. Wendy Lee
